Sore Throat Test & Treat

The pharmacist is able to distinguish between sore throats that are either viral in nature, or sore throats caused by bacteria - ususally Strep A. If "Strep throat" is suspected, a swab of the affected throat can be undertaken and a result obtained in minutes. If Strep throat is confirmed we will prescribe antibiotics (10 day course). Otherwise it will be viral, and as antibiotics do not work, we may prescribe paracetamol and/or ibuprofen to ease the pain. Our recommendation is that you also purchase Difflam lozenges over the counter.
